My blog is call Viumbe because that's the Swahilian word for creation. Why Swahilian? Obviously because English is too mainstream. Also because I like The Lion King. Why Creation? Better question.
Because I think every human has really important urges to create things that are just them. This urge is unmissable for artists, but completely unrecognized for many others.
Something terribly good or bad happens to an artist and likely something better will come out of it, a truer song or painting or picture. But when the office lady at the DMV gets divorced what does she do with that? Hopefully she has someone to talk to. But even if conversation is focused on one person, its still a two person operation. When a person works on a car, plants a garden, paints their sewing room, knits themselves some socks, they are creating for themselves. They are creating themselves. They are leaving their mark. They are taking their thoughts and giving them a home.
My mom has been a secretary at a hospital for about 9 years and before that she worked in a kitchen at a nursing home. But she creates by baking. I blame her for my sugar addiction that started as a child. She is thinking about quitting her job and buying a restaurant. I pray to god that she does it. I truly believes she will be a whole new, refreshed person if she can create everyday. I think we all would be.
I want to create plans for people who are unhappy with their bodies to become healthy and satisfied.
And I want to create a blog. And a compost pile.
What do you do to create?
